November 2009
11/9/2009 8:23:52 AM

'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
but I just couldn't sleep...
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned...the dark meat and white,
but I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
stuffing with gravy, green beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees...
Happy eating to all -- pass the cranberries, please.

The holidays are fast approaching! What does that mean to us? Well, our schedule will be a little different.  Please make sure you look at it closely! Testing will be on a Monday and Tuesday this month. We will also be participating

in the Santa Parade on Friday, November 27th.

Let's hope our warm weather continues!  I will send out more information about the Santa Parade as I receive it.

There will be no class on the following days:

Monday, November 23rd- Testing

Tuesday, November 24th, Testing

Wednesday, November 25th, Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 26th, Thanksgiving

Friday, November 27th, Santa Parade

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hello Students!

Fall is here and Halloween is in the air!  Are you ready for trick or treating? While you are out on Halloween, going from house to house, how about practicing Kuk Sool.  How you ask? Hello Students- Here are a few jokes to make you smile! Kuk Sool!

Two guys were in a Do Jang when a mad dog came flying in and attacked the smaller guy. The larger guy grabbed a belt and strangled the dog. A news reporter standing by said, "You're a hero!" He wrote in his notebook the heading "Kuk Sool Hero Saves Friend from Savage Dog!"

The guy saw the note and said "I do not practice Kuk Sool, I practice Karate."

"OK," said the reporter, then wrote down "Dog Hater Kills Family Pet!!"

_______________________

There were two old  Kuk Sool Masters who continued to compete in Kuk Sool tournaments well past their prime. One day, while relaxing after yet another competition, they were chatting and wondering if there is Kuk Sool in heaven and made a pact that whoever passed away first would come back and let the other know.

About a week later one of the old Kuk Sool Masters passed away. About a month after that the surviving old Kuk Sool Master was at yet another competition when all of a sudden he saw a ghost. Sure enough it was his old buddy who had come back to see him.

"Well, please tell me," asked the surviving Kuk Sool Master "Are there Kuk Sool competitions in heaven?"

"I have good news and bad news for you," replied the ghost of his old Kuk Sool buddy. "The good news is that, yes, there are Kuk Sool competitions in heaven. The bad news is that your first match is the day after tomorrow.

March 2009

Hello Students-

Boy, time is just flying by! Can you believe it is March already?!  The annual awards and potluck was a success as usual.  I hope everyone had a great time, just as I did! We have some exciting events coming in the next few months.

St. Louis Tournament- The annual St. Louis tournament is just around the corner. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th. This tournament is for all ranks, white belts and above.  We will work on tournament prep on the days marked “grappling” on the March calendar.

Last year we took home 3rd place in total points. My goal is to get first place and bring home the flag, however, this can ONLY be done with your participation, practice and focus. I believe in you and if we are all committed to the same cause we can accomplish anything!  Let’s represent Kuk Sool Won of Peoria and BRING HOME THAT FLAG!

Make sure you sign up if you plan on attending. I have placed a sign up poster at the school, next to the card box. The registration forms and hotel information will be on the WKSA web site soon, if they are not there already. Please visit: www.kuksoolwon.com or see me for more information.

I will be testing on Friday, April 24th, the day before the tournament.  Any DBN’s or Black Belts can also join me for testing as well. I will be leaving Peoria early Friday morning to prepare for my testing that afternoon.

Seminar and June Testing- This year’s Super Seminar will be on Sunday, June 14th.  The time is still to be determined. Remember Seminar is mandatory! Kuk Sa Nym travels to over 100 schools by van to visit you. That does not happen in other martial arts- To see the Grand Master you have to find him, so this is a great privilege for Kuk Sool students.

I will be testing in Galesburg on Saturday, June 13th at 9:00 a.m. Galesburg will have their seminar at noon and then we will be on our way to Peoria.  Peoria black belt testing is Saturday, June 13th at 6:00 p.m.

Bio/Photo- Black Belts, please remember to turn in your brief bio and photo. The photo must be in Generals Uniform.

Special Black Belt Testing-We will have a special black belt testing on Friday, March 13th at the Knoxville School at 6:00 p.m.

There will be no class on the following days:

No evening (5:30-7:00) black belt class on Friday, March 13th-Testing

Thursday, March 26th-Testing

Friday, March 27th-Testing

Other info:

Sparring Gear-Now that we have sparring and grappling at least one day a week, yellow belts and above need to purchase sparring gear. White belts and yellow stripes need to bring in mouth pieces and groin cups (males). See me for equipment purchases.

The garment under your uniform must be a Kuk Sool shirt or a plain shirt. Make sure the shirt has no logos and is either black or the same color as your belt.

Hello Students!

St. Jude Fundraiser-

The St. Jude Fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, January 31st from 1p-4p. The board for the United Presbyterian Church voted unanimously in favor of us using their facilities for the fundraiser. They also will be providing staff to assist us.  Now that we have a place and a time, we can move forward with promoting the event to make it a huge success.

Testing-

There will be no classes on December 18th and 19th due to testing.

School Hours-

The school will be closed December 24th – January 1st and will resume normal classes on Friday, January 2nd.   Students can come to class unlimited in December, January and February because of the short holiday months.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!

We will have our annual Dodge Ball tournament on December 23rd from 4:30p-6:30p. This is for all ranks and ages. Come out and have a blast on our last class of 2008! Don’t worry; unlike the movie Dodgeball, we will not be using wrenches!

Oh the weather outside is frightful….

Now that we are officially in the winter months, bad weather is just around the corner. When District 150 closes due to severe weather conditions, Kuk Sool Won of Peoria will cancel all classes. I will update our local TV stations, WEEK and WMBD.  If in doubt, you can call the school.

I have TKD Times magazines available, for those that want to purchase one.

Have a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!

Kuk Sool!
